Abstract

The "iron train" and the "Maria fumarole" are popular names given to a means of transportation that, at the beginning of the last century, represented the opulence of capitalist development, opening up new markets, prospects, and wealth for those who owned or used it. In this tangle of tracks, which crisscrossed Brazil, stories, memories, and identities are linked to railroads. In Goiás, specifically in the municipality of Anápolis, the Prefeito José Fernandes Valente Railway Station was inaugurated in 1935, with the purpose of connecting the city to the rest of the country via existing railway branches. With Art Deco architectural lines, a clock tower, and mosaics throughout, it brought material progress to the Anápolis region and carried goods, people, and dreams along its tracks. This technical report focuses on the cultural asset under study, the Prefeito José Fernandes Valente Railway Station in Anápolis, Goiás, analyzing its heritage status, social uses, and preservation. The central issue of the study is the analysis of the station's heritage status, determining whether the municipal heritage listing significantly contributed to its protection and social use. The final product will be a website to organize and share the history of the railway station, the social uses of the space, and a channel for community interaction.
